Online business degrees are some of the most popular types of online degree programs. Business degrees can help you build a career in almost any industry, because it is so often beneficial if you have a good understanding of business principles. And of course, if you decide to go into business for yourself, a business degree can help you by increasing the likelihood that you’ll be successful as a small business owner.

There are many different kinds of online business degrees, and each of them will help you get into a different industry. Here are a few of the most popular types of business degrees you can find online.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

If you are good with numbers or are interested in the financial aspects of business, you should consider a bachelor’s degree in accounting. As an accountant you will be able to keep the books for businesses, which means you will keep track of income and expenditures. You could also become a tax accountant, helping businesses to file their taxes correctly, and (if you are good at it) helping them to save money on their taxes as well.

Bachelor’s Degree in Economics

Studying economics gives you a great wealth of information related to how to run a business. Since you don’t run a business in a vacuum, understanding how the economy works, and how it affects your business, is very important. This degree can help you get a professional job as an economist or another type of businessperson, but it is also helpful if you plan to run your own business. This degree seems applicable today given the state of our economy.

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance

Like accounting degrees, a bachelor’s degree in finance is incredibly useful and important in the business world. The finance industry is huge, and there are many opportunities for those educated in finance: Banks, insurance companies, retirement service companies, and other financial companies are always looking for educated, experienced employees to support them as they grow.

Bachelor’s Degree in Management

Getting an online business degree in management is an important step in preparing you to manage a business and its employees. We’re not talking about being a shift supervisor at a fast food joint, we’re talking about getting into high powered management positions at professional corporations. A bachelor’s degree in management is the first step toward opening these doors in your career.

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing

Businesses can’t exist without marketing, so a bachelor’s degree in the subject is one of the best online business degrees you can pursue. Companies are always stepping up their marketing efforts, thereby creating job security for you. Additionally, there are a multitude of niche areas of marketing that you can get into: visual marketing–such as photography and graphic art, and writing marketing copy–such as the work done by advertising copywriters. Having a degree in marketing will also help immensely if you ever decide to operate your own business.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)

If you want to know all about how to run a business, a master’s degree in business administration would be a great choice for you. Commonly known as an MBA, this is one of the most popular online business degrees out there. Do you have a bachelor’s degree already and feel you need more to complete? Having your MBA can greatly improve your career possibilities and your earning potential, not to mention your chances for success as a small business owner. This degree encompasses many business subjects and therefore you become a more well rounded business professional.

Many Online Business Degrees to Choose From

As you can see, there are many business degrees for you to choose from online. Moreover, online business degrees are becoming much more accepted in the business world as employers and educators alike realize that it is possible to offer the same quality of education online as it is in a classroom. If you are thinking about pursuing your business education online, be sure to first browse through the types of degrees you can get, and make sure that you choose a degree that will ultimately support your career goals!

While having a business degree is valuable in traditional markets such as banks, investment firms, etc., you can also get a job virtually anywhere with an online business degree. People with business degrees work in all different industries, such as real estate, education, government, and retail.

Online business degrees provide the knowledge and training that all people need to make a positive contribution to the organizations they work for. Keep in mind that it is a broad overview, and that a more specialized degree, such as accounting, goes more in depth than a regular business degree.

Every year, more than one million college graduates enter the workforce. This means that every single person hunting for a business job faces stiff competition from other grads. People who have their online degrees have the competitive advantage over people who don’t have a business degree. They obtained the education needed to meet employers’ expectations for business jobs: they have an established concept of real world applications and a practical sense of business.

Business degrees will prepare you for entry-level careers in all fields of business, such as economics, sales, marketing, and accounting. If you are already in the workforce, then a business degree can help you advance your career. If you are thinking about a career change, then getting your online business degree can help with that as well.

People with online business degrees have jobs in literally every industry there is. The need for business savvy people is growing, and companies around the globe are snatching them up as fast as they can. Some of these industries include: Aerospace and Defense, Agriculture, Construction, Education, Healthcare, Advertising and Marketing, Real Estate, Retail, Telecommunications, Transportation, Arts and Entertainment, Pharmaceuticals, Hospitality…the list goes on and on. If you have a passion for a specific field of study, such as technology, then you will find a job in that industry with a degree in business.

Some examples of employers who hire people with their online business degrees include:

Hotels

Public relations firms

Government

Brokerage firms

Colleges

Banks

Non-profit organizations

Insurance companies

Restaurants

Advertising agencies

You’re probably wondering “what are some of the specific jobs people with online business degrees have?” In reality, there are too many to name, but some examples are:

Financial Analyst

Product Manager

Human Resources Specialist

Market Researcher

Sales Manager

Budget Analyst

Investment Banker

Assistant Buyer

Accountant

Stockbroker

Many people also choose to continue on to graduate school. Only 10 to 15 percent of business school graduates go straight to grad school after getting their business degrees, but many more choose to work for a few years first. Either way, getting your Master’s degree in business is a great way to ensure a long and lucrative career.

Some jobs that people with a Master’s degree in Business Administration hold include:

Chief Executive Officer

Director of Sales

Vice President of Sales and Development

Event Coordinator

Technology Manager

Vice President of Operations

Product Director

Senior Project Manager

Chief Financial Officer

Director of Business Development

As with most other competitive fields, it helps to have real world experience before graduation to stand out from the competition. People who have internships, job experience or volunteer experience under their belt along with their business degrees are more likely to get hired right after graduation than those who just have their degree.

While each core curriculum will differ from school to school, most business degrees and programs include courses in all relevant aspects of business. These courses are designed to give you the knowledge needed to be successful in the business field.

Some schools also give you the freedom to choose your own curriculum. This means that you can decide which areas of business you want to gain expertise in. The ability to design your own curriculum gives you a unique educational background that allows you to stand out from the competition and attracts potential employers. Some concentrations for online business degrees include Accounting, e-Commerce, Business Information Systems, Finance, Human Resources, International Business, and Project Management.

By concentrating your business degree curriculum in Accounting, you will gain the knowledge necessary to obtain a career in this field. This includes learning the basics of Accounting, as well as how to record financial transactions, prepare financial statements, accounts payable and receivable, examine financial statements and maintain a ledger.

E-Commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services over different electronic processes, such as the internet. By concentrating on e-commerce for your online business degree you will learn about electronic funds transfer, inventory management, the internet, internet marketing, electronic data interchange, how to use technology to enhance your business, and much more.

Business Information Systems is defined by the International Journal of Business Information Systems as “a system which integrates information technology, people and business. BIS brings business functions and information modules together for establishing effective communication channels which are useful for making timely and accurate decisions.” In other words, Business Information Systems professionals work to enhance the use of technology in their organizations and manage the day to day operations of these systems. Students getting their online business degrees with a concentration in BIS learn about business analysis, research methods, how to use technology to make business decisions, and how to manage information systems.

A concentration in Finance will help you understand how to manage money, risks, and assets. Courses include Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Foundations of Finance, Financial Markets, Investments, and Risk Management. These courses will teach you about the different financial markets, how to make good investments, managing finances, and about fiscal policies. Business degrees with a concentration in Finance are good educational backgrounds for those pursuing employment with banks, insurance companies, and investment firms.

Human Resources is a popular concentration for many people getting their business degrees. Human Resources departments in many organizations exist to hire, train, evaluate, promote and compensate employees. By taking courses in Human Resources, you will learn about human resources management, how to recruit new employees, the law, the different principles of the field, and different issues people in the field face.

International Business relates to the operations of multinational corporations. These companies do business in all different areas, including food, electronics, energy, and vehicle manufacturing. By complimenting your business degree with a concentration in International Business, you will be learning about the legal and political systems of different countries, foreign economies, international culture, and regulations on labor, trade, and the environment. People pursuing their business degrees in International Business can expect to be hired by multinational corporations like McDonalds, General Motors, Sony, and ExxonMobil, to name a few.

Product Development deals with creating and promoting new products. All companies that produce goods and services have Product Development Specialists whose sole purpose is to create and market products. People who study Product Development for their online business degrees learn about marketing, e-business, concept development, market testing, and commercialization.

These are just a few examples of the areas of business that you can study for your online business degree. All of the courses in these fields will provide you with the skills you need to be a successful business person.

Every person on the face of the earth has different capacities and talents, explaining why a big range of methods is employed in the classroom to try and encourage people to learn. However, who is to assert that the thinking behind this theory cannot be applied to techniques of learning as well as methods? In reality, it’s been applied to ways of learning with the invention of internet schools and schools.

Instead of forcing an individual to sit in class each day and learn, any individual can now sit at home and learn however he wants and whenever she or she or he or she wants. As far as personal choice winds easily, but when you observe the benefits and blessings of offline education you see that the contest between the two is not quite as clear cut!

Many traditionalists will dismiss online degrees and school courses as a waste of time because they only accept the dregs of society who could not get into another instructional program. There are released essays and articles broadcast to that effect. Indeed that is not the case. In reality, online education leaves education open to people who could have gone if they were given the break.

They are no kind of smart than individuals attending a campus varsity, and there has basically been research to prove that online schools could actually be better for an individual’ health than those individual students have to attend each day!

Drexel School studied online students in the course of their research and really compared them. The results were highly engaging because individuals taking online degrees actually appeared to be far happier than those attending on campus degree courses. In fact, the lifestyles of the two sets of folk were very different and recommended that a web degree is better for the mental well being of students.

The workload is approximately the same, but online students did not seem to stretch themselves too far, leaving equal time for all of their commitments and juggling well. On the other hand, campus students were finding it tough to cope with the demands of going to university. The tutors might be there to remind students of deadlines, but it was found that they were putting too much pressure on the individual student and essentially dictating priorities in some cases rather than giving an individual the chance to determine his or her own priorities.

Drexel revealed that there was more pleasure in taking a web degree than a campus one and, as a result, individuals were learning more, stressing less and generally enjoying themselves instead of panicking themselves into a frenzy! Offline scholars seldom change their lifestyle to house the tutorial addition, whereas campus scholars change their priorities and lifestyle totally to permit their degree to take over their lives.

That is not to claim though that campus degrees do not have their advantages over online degrees because they do. Firstly, the full varsity experience is not necessarily widely available if you complete a degree on the internet. It can be a nightmare attempting to fit your degree into your life, not to mention visit the school itself, and if it operates only online then you cannot attend in person anyway. The experience is an once in an entire life opportunity. However, if there are more things going on in your life then it could be an expendable one.

The one problem that this may lead to online students is in terms of assignment help. It might not be likely for individuals to communicate with each other to offer or ask for help when mandatory. In truth, an offline student would be contingent on a forum or other sort of communication network in which others may not respond. If that were the case, then it might be up to the individual student to try and find the answers themselves! That is not to assert that one is much the other, but returning to the first paragraph, one will suit you more than the other!

As technology continues to advance and the global marketplace expands, how business is conducted constantly changes. Whether you’re just entering the business world or you’re looking to embark on a new career path, earning an online business degree can help you keep pace with the competition.

Which Business Degrees Can You Earn Online?
You can find online business degrees at every level, from basic diplomas and certificates to a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Your previous education as well as your career goals will dictate which online business degree program you choose.

A diploma, certificate or online business associate’s degree will provide you with the entry-level skills needed to enter into a specific area of business like accounting or bookkeeping. A bachelor of science program will help prepare you for higher-ranking positions in management as well pave the way for pursuing an advanced business degree. The most-well known advanced business degree is the MBA, which is designed to give you the leadership skills needed to succeed in areas like corporate organizational management.

If you’re looking for additional training, but not necessarily in need of a full degree, consider earning a specialized certificate. Many online degree programs offer specialized training in areas like project management or mentoring and coaching.

What You Can Study
Earning your business degree online doesn’t mean you’re limited to general areas of study. Many online business degree programs give you the option to focus on a single area of business, like management, marketing and communication, accounting, finance or administration. Additionally, you’ll find online business degree programs that focus coursework within a field or industry, including:

E-commerce. Online business degrees in e-commerce are often a combination of traditional business studies (accounting, finance, etc.) and specialized studies in electronic commerce law and operations, security and privacy, and management information systems. Entrepreneurship. Millions of people aspire to go into business for themselves and be their own boss. Online business degrees in entrepreneurship are structured to reflect the various skills entrepreneurs need and typically cover accounting, communication, ethics, finance, human resources and sales and marketing. Real-world case studies are often used as teaching tools. Health Care Management. With Baby Boomers getting closer to retirement age, the health care field is growing. There’s a need for practitioners, but there’s also a need for individuals who can manage the administration of the services and care provided, whether those originate at hospitals, government agencies, insurance or pharmaceutical companies or private-care facilities. Information Technology Management. Information technology management is broadly defined as computer hardware, software and network design, including Internet applications. Essentially, how computers process and manage data and information. Online business degrees in information technology management focus heavily on programming, operations, and data management, along with finance, personnel, project management, and communications. International Business. Online business degrees in international business helps managers, and thus companies, break through barriers to doing business outside their native country. Traditional business areas of study like accounting and finance show up in a curriculum that includes course work in international laws and trade and other aspects of international business like joint ventures.

Choosing a Program
Once you know what degree level you wish to pursue and the area of study you’d like to focus your online business degree, you’ll need to do some research to locate online business degree programs that offer what you need at a price you can afford.

The most important thing to consider before you commit to any program is determining first, if the school that provides the online business degree is accredited and then, if the accrediting agency for that school is reputable. Accreditation isn’t formally regulated and guidelines vary from state to state. Be sure the online business degree program you want to pursue is offered by a school whose accreditation agency is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education.

Financing Your Degree
The cost for an online business degree varies from program to program, however, on average the cost per individual credit of coursework is between $300 and $400. Just because a school is online however, that doesn’t mean financial aid isn’t available.

If you’re working already, be sure to check whether your company offers tuition reimbursement as a benefit and if online business degrees are included in the tuitions covered.

You’ll also want to see if the online business degree program you’ve chosen is offered by a school approved for federal student loans or offers other financial assistance packages to students. Most do, but some don’t. Online schools aren’t considered by banks to be any different than on-campus schools, so don’t rule out a traditional student loan if other sources of financing don’t pan out.

Planning for Success
Even the best online business degree programs won’t further your education or career unless you’re committed to doing the work. Online business degrees are flexible by nature, but that doesn’t mean you can forget about time management. Making and sticking to a schedule to complete your course work is essential to succeeding in your online business degree program.

Other tools and tactics that will help you succeed in your online business degree program include establishing communication with your instructors and classmates over e-mail or using chat rooms and discussion boards.

Strong Internet and library research skills are also essential. Finally, if you live in a remote area where high-speed Internet service isn’t available, limit your online business degree program options to those with an Internet connection minimum of dial up to ensure you’ll always have access to the materials you need to download and can submit your course work on time.

These days, there are many more opportunities available for working people who want another degree. Getting a business degree online is one of those options.

If you are a working person and you need a graduate business degree, but you don’t have the money, then there are plenty of options out there for you. In this day and age of ultra-competitive business, companies want to stay on top of the ranking and on top of their industry. In order to do that, they have to make sure that they keep plenty of employees on staff that have obtained those coveted degrees. This has become such an issue that many companies will even pay for their employees to head back to school in order to get a business degree. This can take a major load off of the shoulders of a working adult, especially if that person has other responsibilities to take care of with their paycheck.

How does one go about getting their hands on some of these opportunities? In short, they have to be willing to go to the head of their company and make a case for themselves. Employees shouldn’t expect their boss to just come in and start casually throwing around money for college. Most corporate budgets have this expense listed at the beginning of the year, so the funds are there. Employees must know how to work the system to get what they deserve.

Another concern that many working professionals have is the issue of time. When working a difficult and demanding corporate job, when does a person have time to go back to college? The truth is that it isn’t possible to go back to college in the traditional sense. A better option is getting a business degree online from a well-respected institution. Online programs like this are geared to fit the schedule of the working person. There are no set class times that one must fill. Instead, the workload is given to the student and it is up to the student to determine when they can complete the work. This kind of flexibility makes working and attending school at the same time a distinct possibility.

If you are a working professional who just can’t seem to get ahead in the corporate world, it might be time to think about what is holding you back. You have the experience and you have the know how to get the job done. The only area where you might lack is in the education department. If your company is going to pay for you to head back to school and get that degree, you might as well take them up on the offer. After all, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could end up helping you make the most out of a career that was previously stuck in neutral.
